Abstract

This talk will cover emerging wireless technologies and in particular the role Java plays in that area. We will discuss Sun's K virtual machine, a small-footprint Java platform specifically designed for cell phones and PDAs. We will also discuss how Java relates to other wireless technologies such as the wireless application protocol (WAP).

Biography

Sheng Liang is a member of the K virtual machine (KVM) team at Sun Microsystems and is a leading expert in Java virtual machine technologies. Before working on the KVM he led the Java virtual machine development for the first release of the Java 2 Platform. He is also known as the designer of the Java Native Interface (JNI). Sheng holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Yale University.
