Abstract

The Java Programming Language was first introduced to the world a year and a half ago as a robust and secure programming language for the Internet. Since that time, it has aroused significant interest among software professionals.

During this talk, Frank will discuss the Java Language and Jafasoft: both where the language came from and where the language is going.

Biography

Frank Yellin received an AB in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University in 1980. He then joined the PhD program at Stanford University, where he did research into automatic generation of concurrent programs. He left the PhD program in 1985 to join Lucid, Inc. He received a MSc from Stanford in 1992.

For the past two years, Frank worked at Sun Microsystems on the Java/HotJava project. His principle area of concern has been the runtime system. Frank is the co-author of several books on Java. Together with James Gosling, he wrote the Java Application Programming Interface, Volumes I and II. Together with Timothy Lindholm, he is author of The Java Virtual Machine.
